Why can we not use the remnants of the Church that Joseph Smith sought to establish?
The Gospel Truth About the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints' leadership believes sincerely that they retain the full authority, power, gifts, rights, and keys that were given to the prophet Joseph Smith. Here are some of the reasons that they do not.
I) Joseph Smith never gave keys to revelation, power, spiritual gifts, or the highest priesthood for the church to anyone before he was killed.
D&C 115:19 Joseph Smith received keys to Kingdom/Church.
D&C 132:7 Joseph Smith alone could use the keys to seal others.
D&C 64:4-5 Keys not to be taken from Joseph while alive.
D&C 35:18 Can give keys to another only whom will be designated.
D&C 28:7 Will give keys to another whom will be designated in its time.
II) The president has not an oracle (rod) to receive revelation for the church, wherein is not a translator, revelator, or seer.
2 Samuel 16:23 The House of Israel had oracles.
Romans 3:2 The House of Israel had oracles.
D&C 90:4-5 Joseph Smith's oracle to be given to the Lord's church.
History 5:257 Where the oracles of God are not, there the kingdom of God is not.
Words 159 Where the oracles of God are and subjects to obey them, there is the Kingdom of God.
The church may have the white stone (an oracle) but does not have the gifts, power, priesthood, or keys to use it. Possession requires the use of the gifts, powers, priesthoods and keys or else it is nothing.
III) Prophets of the church do not receive revelation in writing as did Joseph Smith.
D&C 28:7 Joseph given keys to mysteries of kingdom.
D&C 24:1,6 Joseph wrote the will of God and did not determine it of himself or with the help of others.
D&C 124:4
Blacks and Priesthood official declaration--See the difference, this is not revelation.
IV) Many truths known of in the days of Joseph Smith have been lost or corrupted to these days.
Book of Rev 69 This reveals that verses were taken out and verses were added.
Book of Comm 4:5-6 To show that things have been changed and taken out.
D&C 8:6-9 The knowledge of the oracle (rod) was taken out.
D&C 67 Was written for those that wanted to correct Joseph Smith's revelations - told not to.
D&C 27:6 (Prophet Elias) Major doctrines not taught or known of correctly, and (King David) many more.
Jer 23:5-8
V) Blacks and the Priesthoods
Joseph Smith authorized black men to receive the priesthood in his time (Elijah Abel and Jane Manning James among others) - There have also been other men since of the blood of Canaan as well who have received the Aaronic and Melchizedek Priesthood. This is not questionable. I have heard that exception is allowable but is not to be the rule. This is wrong either black men were to receive the Priesthood or not, God is just, and stable in His ways not as a man who can't make up his mind. He either does it or not. But a succeeding president after Joseph Smith took it upon himself to revoke the ordinations of some black men. Does this not display the ignorance or prejudice of some leadership officials? What right did any succeeding president have to revoke any activities of a previous president? It appears that they wait for the deaths of a president so they can change what was previously acceptable, to be the way they want it to be for themselves. Joseph Smith did direct not to give the Priesthoods to slaves because of their handicapped environment, but not to deny all black men.
VI) Inability of Presidents to Get Revelation
One good example is that of President Kimball. Spencer W. Kimball was unable for 20 years to get revelation, as he says he had prayed for direction, but was unable to obtain a revelation concerning it. Then he did not get a revelation, as Joseph Smith did, but with a group decision, agreed to allow black men the privilege to hold the priesthoods.
VII) The church defiled Heavenly Laws by changing endowments, keys and truths, as organized for the progression of the saints in the temples.
How many times have temple ordinances and teachings been changed?
D&C 1:15 They differ greatly than the days of Joseph Smith.
Words 319 All ordinances are needed to be fulfilled in order to receive the fulness of the blessings from the Gods.
History 2:16 The ordinances have always been the same throughout the history of the world.
Teachings of Joseph Smith 504 We were told that there is to be no change of the ordinances or the
priesthoods.
VIII) The sacrament ordinance was corrupted with the water and made null and void. (Wine is required)
D&C 1:13-16 The wrath of God comes upon those who stray from the ordinances and covenants as given through the Prophet Joseph Smith.
Moroni 5:2 The wine is to be used in the sacrament.
D&C 20:79 The wine is to be used in the sacrament.
D&C 27:2-4 We are told not to purchase bread or wine from others, but it is to be made new by the faithful. Is water made? No!
D&C 89:5 Notice that wine was recognized to be used for the sacrament.
There was nothing but wine used during the days of the Prophet Joseph Smith.
IX) The church corrupted, or did away with the ordinances of the washing of hands, face, and feet.
D&C 1:15 This shows that the church was falling away from the ordinances.
D&C 88:139-141 This scripture shows the importance of the washing of feet to be done in connection with the sacrament; for a special privilege.
John 13:4,5 The Savior commands for the washing of feet to be done and correctly or else they do not have place in the kingdom of God with Him.
The church does not even know to perform the washing of hands or face as He gave the saints to do.
D&C 88:74 The Lord commanded the saints to purify themselves (sacrament) wash their hands and, as well, their feet as part of the process of sanctification.
JST John 13:6-10 The Savior shows that He had his apostles to perform washings of hands and face while He was on the earth.
2 Nephi 25:16 The Lord reveals that the day will come that the fallen House of Israel must return to the ordinances of the sacrament and the washing of hands.
3 Nephi 13:17 The Savior continued this commandment with the House of Israel in the Americas.
As well Joseph Smith participated in the ordinances of the sacrament, the washing of hands, face, and feet, and as well, the sealing ordinance of the anointing.
Notice the loss of ordinances.
X) They do not perform or receive the baptism of Fire, and the Holy Ghost.
3 Nephi 9:20 The baptism Fire and Holy Ghost was given to the Lamanites.
3 Nephi 11:35 Those who progress receive the baptism of Fire and Holy Ghost.
D&C 33:11 The baptism of Fire and the Holy Ghost also is promised.
D&C 39:6 The baptism of Fire and Holy Ghost is a necessary activity to receiving the second comforter.
D&C 20:41 The baptism of Fire and Holy Ghost is given by the laying on of hands by one who is ordained and sealed unto this authority.
XI) The church has not the greater spiritual gifts of previous dispensations.
Does the church have the power to heal as the Savior's day? No (Do not include medical science of man). Do men speak with the tongue of angels? No. Do they translate through oracles? No. Do they perform miracles as Moses? No.
XII) The gifts of the Spirit of God and the Holy Spirit are not bestowed unto the church.
Jacob 6:8 The Holy Ghost and Holy Spirit are different gifts.
D&C 76:52 The Holy Spirit is given by the laying on of hands after Christ.
Alma 31:36 The Holy Spirit is given by the laying on of hands prior to Christ.
Alma 9:21 The Spirit of God is separate from the Holy Ghost.
D&C 46:17-20 There are gifts of the Spirit of God.
Moroni 10:9-16 The Gifts of the Spirit of God.
XIII) The church does not speak in the tongue of angels, which is required to receive greater power.
1 Cor 13:1 There is a difference between the tongue of men and angels.
2 Nephi 32:1-3 Angels speak by the power of the Holy Ghost.
2 Nephi 31:13,14 Speaking in tongue of angels cometh after the receiving of the baptism of Fire and the Holy Ghost. Then can mortal men speak with the tongue of angels and shout praises unto God.
1 Cor 14:2 This scripture reveals that speaking in an unknown tongue (which is the tongue of an angel), is when they speak by the power of the Holy Ghost (Spirit).
D&C 46:28-31 He that asks receives the Spirit, and then the Spirit directs the person's words.
2 Nephi 32:4-6 Then the man who has the Holy Ghost in him, is able to speak the activities in which the Savior would have him to accomplish.
1 Cor. 14:4,13,14 The man who prays with the power of the Holy Ghost in him (Spirit) is able to have a greater influence with God.
XIV) The church has not the Patriarchal Priesthood as given by God through his prophets.
D&C 107:63-64 Deacon through Elder is a lower priesthood than the High Priesthood, which is the Evangelical as given to the Patriarchs.
D&C 84:6-14 The Priesthood given from Adam to Moses was the High Priesthood (Patriarchal).
Notice that the priesthood of Moses (Patriarchal) and Aaron (Melchizedek in last days) differs than that of greater priesthood given to others who received it from God.
D&C 84:33,34,39-42 The New and Everlasting Covenant of marriage and Priesthood.
D&C 131:1-4 This Priesthood is above the Melchizedek portion, as established, and the Patriarchal portion.
XV) The church took away a Priesthood (Seventy).
Teachings of Joseph Smith 504 The Priesthoods are supposed to be the same as given through Joseph Smith unless the Lord directs them to do so.
Of which, there has been no revelation to do this. The church has taken away a priesthood without direction from God. Is it a true church when it takes away the fulness of the priesthood?
XVI) The church is not performing Calling and Election made sure as revealed through the Prophet Joseph Smith.
The church does not know the ordinances, nor receive revelations through oracles to know the will of God. Let alone, the fulness of the priesthood, keys, gifts, powers, and rights to seal as Joseph Smith.
XVII) The church is not performing the New and Everlasting Covenant of Marriage as revealed to Joseph Smith.
The church does not know the ordinances, nor receive revelations through oracles to know the will of God. Let alone, the fulness of the priesthood, keys, gifts, powers, and rights to seal as Joseph Smith.
At the present time, the wedding ceremony accomplishes nothing with regards to being sealed for time and eternity. If they continue faithfully they will obtain these blessings to become kings and queens, but these rights are not theirs then which is presently being taught.
D&C 132:18-20 Even if they marry for time and eternity it is useless unless God directs it through revelation, through his prophet whom he has given the keys, authority and power to seal them up.
In essence, temple weddings are merely being married for the laws of the land, and nothing more. There are no greater blessings sealed upon them.
XVIII) The church does not know how to ask and knock in prayer.
D&C 88:62-65 It shows in the scriptures that it is a command to pray through asking and knocking. Does the Church teach this and correctly? No, because they don't know how to.
2 Nephi 32:4-6 The faithful cannot receive the truths without knowing how to ask and knock.
D&C 49:26 Do they teach to ask and knock in personal prayer? No!
There are many scriptures that reveal of asking in a specific manner, and knocking in a specific manner, which is necessary to receive further light and knowledge through the Spirit.
XIX) The church does not know the fulness of the names of the Godhead necessary to receive the blessings.
One thing that is throughout the scriptures is that of having a knowledge of the true names of the Godhead and the blessings associated. The Savior revealed the fulness of the names to the apostles, which were not known to the Jews.
John 16:23,24 Jesus revealed the name of the Father to his apostles.
D&C 19:6,7,10 Even the Savior's name given to Him in mortality is not the fulness by which he is called.
Is there a name for the Holy Ghost? Do you remember the baptismal prayer when he says the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost? Note also that the name of Jesus Christ is sacred and of a nature for the most faithful. So the mortal name is not the one given to man from the Gods. Do not think titles are the names, for they are not.
XX) The gathering of the faithful, and building up the New Jerusalem shows the lack of faithfulness of the saints in the days of Joseph Smith.
The saints were unworthy and incapable to gather as a people in the days of Joseph Smith, nor to build the Holy City.
History 6:183-184 Thus they were divided, broken up, and scattered as a people.
Book of Commandments 4:5-6 The destructions await those who have continued with the limitations of the fallen church.
XXI) The church is not preparing sufficiently for the great destructions that are coming upon the world soon.
D&C 106:4 The coming of the Lord will come as a thief in the night (not knowing when).
Rev 6:12-17 This scripture revealed of the destructions to come in the 6th millennium and that we need to be prepared for.
Joel 2:30-31 Wrote of destructions to come in the last days.
D&C 45:32,39-42 The Lord revealed of destructions to come, and of the saints anticipating their fulfillment.
JST Gen 9:21-24 The return of lands of Enoch.
D&C 87:6-8 Spoke of the necessity of gathering to holy places.
D&C 101:22 Reveals of gathering to holy places to abide things to come.
D&C 45:60-71 The Lord explains the need to understand the scriptures more fully. For this purpose he revealed to Joseph Smith the correct writings of the New Testament. With this knowledge we were to use it to prepare for the things to come in the last days.
XXII) Many of the presidents of the church have disputed over the truths of the gospel.
The conflict of doctrines from one president to another is easily seen through their personal writings and talks.
Epilogue
This is a sample of some of the misunderstandings that have been passed down in the church since the days of Joseph Smith.
As I am sure the leadership will attempt at persuading away each and every principle, of which, if they are unable to do so will say that you are on the road to apostasy or lack in faith.
Paul said it best when he wrote:
"Prove all things; hold fast that which is good." (1 Thessalonians 5:21)
However the church says don't read these words. Do not seek out the mysteries for you will become lost. Do not listen to the evidence given by others, because you are not capable of understanding or recognizing truth. Listen to us only, for we are the servants of God. We have the fulness, (some will say) or we do not know it all but we are God's servants and obey us or be damned.
Joseph Smith rebuked these comments by saying:
"...I never hear of a man being d[amne]d forbel[ievin]g. too much but they are d-d for unbel[ief]" (Words of Joseph Smith 285)
"When God offers a blessing or knowledge to a man, and he refuses to receive it, he will be damned...." (History 5:555)
"There are a great many wise men and women too in our midst who are too wise to be taught; therefore they must die in their ignorance, and in the resurrection they will find their mistake. Many seal up the door of heaven by saying, So far God may reveal and I will believe. (History 5:424)
" It is impossible for a man to be saved in ignorance." (D&C 131:6)
Ignorance or a state of hindered learning is exactly what they want you to be in.
These words are to give you just a taste of the reality of the doctrines that are far short of truth.
There is much more yet to be given, if you have eyes to see, and ears to hear. But if they tell you don't speak with, read or associate with anyone that says other than them, this is their prison.
Freedom of thought exists only as long as you retain it to yourselves, but the moment you give up that right by putting on the tunnel vision of others, then you become slaves to them.
The Lord does not want ignorant slaves, but that of knowledgeable stewards to serve him in His kingdom.
For the Lord has said through the Prophet Joseph Smith that it is a right to the faithful to be able to receive all of the mysteries of the kingdom of God.
" But unto him that keepeth my commandments I will give the mysteries of my kingdom, and the same shall be in him a well of living water, springing up unto everlasting life." (D&C 63:23)
Unfortunately, it is taught that only certain people are able to receive the mysteries of the kingdom of God. To those who teach this, they are wrong.
"For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost, as well in these times as in times of old, and as well in times of old as in times to come; wherefore, the course of the Lord is one eternal round." (1 Nephi 10:19)
Therefore, the mysteries of God are offered to anyone who desires to obtain them. However, there are conditions to receiving these truths.
"And now Alma began to expound these things unto him, saying: It is given unto many to know the mysteries of God; nevertheless they are laid under a strict command that they shall not impart only according to the portion of his word which he doth grant unto the children of men, according to the heed and diligence which they give unto him.
"And therefore, he that will harden his heart, the same receiveth the lesser portion of the word; and he that will not harden his heart, to him is given the greater portion of the word, until it is given unto him to know the mysteries of God until he know them in full.
"And they that will harden their hearts, to them is given the lesser portion of the word until they know nothing concerning his mysteries; and then they are taken captive by the devil, and led by his will down to destruction. Now this is what is meant by the chains of hell." (Alma 12:9-11)
But unfortunately, those who are in positions of authority in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints are somewhat reluctant in learning the greater truths that are coming forth. Instead they remain with the belief of their forefathers. Rejecting the greater truths that were meant to come forth in the last days.
"I say unto you, my sons, were it not for these things, which have been kept and preserved by the hand of God, that we might read and understand of his mysteries, and have his commandments always before our eyes, that even our fathers would have dwindled in unbelief, and we should have been like unto our brethren, the Lamanites, who know nothing concerning these things, or even do not believe them when they are taught them, because of the traditions of their fathers, which are not correct." (Mosiah 1:5)
My words I hope have not fallen on deaf ears, for this is but the beginning of truth that I offer you. I have sacrificed and suffered much to learn these truths, and have received them through inspiration, revelation, ministering spirits, angels, through the Savior and through my Father which is in heaven.
The day of restoration has come, to which I call forth unto all that would have faith in a true prophet, who is approved of God, come forth and be recognized.
Amen.

Amen.
